We Give-a-Shit (GAS) about mature age people who can’t get a job because of age discrimination.
We also GAS about the missed opportunity costs for organisations of not hiring people who bring unrivalled knowledge and experience, many different acquired capabilities, a good work ethic and a strong sense of loyalty.
Maturious is inspired by the personal experience of a mature age job seeker – David Tarr – our CEO and Founder.
The story began when David needed to find a new job. It started well - four phone interviews in two weeks. It sounded promising, the conversations were encouraging: “You sound perfect for the role”, “When can we meet?”
The meetings happened, but that’s when the rhetoric and the enthusiasm to talk waned – a lot. Almost before David had sat down.
At the fourth interview, David had an epiphany – something was seriously wrong. And there it was: age discrimination.
David realised he couldn’t be alone - discrimination like this must be happening to many mature age people.
The research backed it up - ageism and discrimination in recruitment isn’t an isolated issue, it’s a systemic and growing national and global problem.
It’s a problem that’s both a barrier for mature-age people to gain meaningful employment, and a missed opportunity for employers competing for talent.
And so Maturious was born.
